Is This a Library or a Café? BTS RM’s Visit to the Uijeongbu Art Library

by 꿈꾸는치타 2024. 8. 19.

Hello, everyone!
Today, I want to introduce you to the Uijeongbu Art Library, a place I recently visited.

It gained even more fame after BTS leader RM visited.
After experiencing it myself, I can totally see why it's so special.

Uijeongbu Art Library: The New Cultural Hub

Uijeongbu Art Library opened in November 2019.

It is the first public library in Korea dedicated to art.
It is more than just a place to read books.
It’s a cultural space designed to share and connect through artistic expression.

Unique Concept and Spatial Design

The library’s most distinctive feature is its unique blend of art and literature.
As soon as you enter, it feels like walking into an art gallery.
The walls are adorned with various artworks, and artistic sculptures are placed throughout, capturing your attention.

The library is spread across three floors, each with its own theme:

  1. 1st Floor - Art Ground: A plaza concept that combines reading spaces and community areas.
  2. 2nd Floor - General Ground: The main space, featuring a wide range of art-related books.
  3. 3rd Floor - Multi Ground: A versatile space used for lectures, workshops, and exhibitions.

BTS RM’s Visit: A Turning Point for the Library

When BTS leader RM (Kim Namjoon) visited in January 2023, the Uijeongbu Art Library gained even more attention.

Known for his love of art, RM’s visit drew fans and curious visitors alike.

One remarkable aspect of his visit is that RM donated art books to the library.

This donation has enriched the library's collection, offering fans a glimpse into RM's artistic tastes.
You can find the books he donated on the 3rd floor in the special donation zone.

Exploring the Library

1st Floor: Art Ground

When you step into the 1st floor, a spacious lobby with various artworks greets you.
This area hosts small meetings and open stage programs.
It’s a place where you can read books and interact with others freely.

2nd Floor: General Ground

The 2nd floor is the heart of the Art Library.
Here, you can explore a vast collection of art-related books covering topics from art history to modern art, design, and architecture.
There are reading desks by the windows where you can enjoy a book while gazing at the scenery outside.

3rd Floor: Multi Ground

The 3rd floor is perhaps the most intriguing space.
It hosts various exhibitions, lectures, and workshops.
It feels like stepping into a small art museum.
This floor also has a cafeteria where you can buy coffee and light snacks, making it a popular spot for people to enjoy a drink while reading.
This feature adds to the unique charm of the Uijeongbu Art Library.

Is it a café or a library? That delightful ambiguity is what makes it special!

The Library’s Special Appeal

Innovative Space Design

The Uijeongbu Art Library’s design is truly impressive.
Its visually open structure and flexible design express diversity.
The rhythmic spatial arrangement and sculptural furniture make you feel both relaxed and energized at the same time.

A Variety of Programs

The library offers more than just books.
It regularly hosts art-related lectures, workshops, and exhibitions, greatly enriching the cultural lives of the local community.

A Space for Children

There’s also a well-designed area for children.
The 1st floor has a cozy space where kids can enjoy books, making it a favorite spot for families.

Visiting Tips

  1. It’s busier on weekends, so a weekday visit is recommended.
  2. Be sure to explore the art books on the 2nd floor—there are some rare finds.
  3. Check the schedule for exhibitions or programs on the 3rd floor before you go.
  4. The nearby cafes also have a great atmosphere, so consider stopping by after your visit.

Conclusion

The Uijeongbu Art Library is more than just a library.
It’s a new type of cultural space where art and knowledge blend seamlessly.
While it became even more famous after BTS RM’s visit, it’s a place worth visiting on its own merit.

The library embodies the philosophy that "Changing your environment can change your thinking."
Spending time here truly inspires creativity and new ideas.

I highly recommend the Uijeongbu Art Library to anyone interested in art or those looking for a new kind of library experience.
It's a special place, just a short trip from Seoul.

If you get the chance, make sure to visit.
You’ll enjoy a unique day surrounded by books, art, and beautiful spaces.
